UFMG - BR (Veterinary Medicine)
I have 7 years of experience teaching Portuguese to corporate students as well as individual. Most of my students work with Brazilian companies, therefore I am very familiar and well attuned to their language needs. The classes are fun, with conversational exercises to give the students the practice they need to communicate in Portuguese with their clients. Besides Portuguese I also teach conversational Spanish and have students learning Spanish for different reasons.
I graduated in Veterinary School and I also have been working with languages for the past 7 years as a Portuguese Interpreter/Translator. Because cultural knowledge is important in the business world I include that in my lessons. I have 7 years of experience teaching Portuguese to corporate students as well as individual. I can give a better rate if the student schedules more hours.
Lied knows her Portuguese. She is very professional and always is prompt and on time. I appreciate that she has also been pretty flexible with her schedule with me since I can not always meet at the same times or days. My Portuguese has improved so much since taking lessons with her. I will sometimes slip and speak to her in English and she will always remind me to speak in Portuguese. We always communicate in Portuguese via text and she has daily tweets with Portuguese vocab words to study. I would suggest using her if you are looking to learn Portuguese.
Lied worked very hard to teach me Portuguese. I had little time and was surely not the hard-working student every tutor wishes for, but Lied was very patient and encouraging with me. I have since moved to Brazil and am glad I learned what I did.
Lied is very patient, diligent and a good teacher. She is flexible and fun to learn from. My Portuguese language skills have gone from very little to a good intermediate student in about three months or so, averaging about 1 or 2 90 minute lessons. I have been motivated to study, especially combining my lessons with the Pimsleur tapes and Portugese for Dummies. She pushes me gently to learn even more, and has encouraged me to email and even text in Portuguese. I recommend her highly.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have lived in the USA for about 16 years. I have worked as a translator and interpreter since 2007 and as a Portuguese tutor since 2008. Most of my students and clients conduct business in English and there is no difficulty communicating. Also, when I tutor I have to go back an forth in both languages and/or bring up a meaning of expressions and words according to the students culture (language). Therefore I feel I am qualified to teach ESL.
I am Brazilian and therefore a native Portuguese speaker. The main focus of my classes is conversation. Why? Because that's how we learn any language! Talking. I also work with writing and reading according to my students needs. I have 7 years of experience teaching students with different reasons to learn a language. Some want to travel, some need Portuguese for work and some just enjoy languages. With the Olympic Games approaching don't you think it would be fun to learn about the country that will host the event as well as their language? So, let's get started with Portuguese!
