I am a retiring Special Educator, and have taught students of many abilities. I enjoy teaching reading and math, and have had success with students utilizing visual supports and consistent, direct instruction. I work with children who have had little success with traditional education methods.

As a special educator (Florida, Germany, Alaska), I design and implement instruction using research based methods with students of all ages on a wide variety of areas including reading, math, writing, vocabulary, and handwriting. As a general educator, I have experience in elementary education, grade 4 (Florida), and social studies, K-12, in Australia.

I had the opportunity to work in Remote Alaskan schools with the Bering Strait school District at different times over a period of 3 years, in the capacity of special educator, teacher mentor, and as a Reading Interventionist, K-12. I have taught students in Florida, Germany, and Australia, as well. All of these positions required teaching of reading. I teach phonics using research based curriculum and experience based strategies which result in documented progress.

I have taught students of many abilities, including students who primarily have ADD or ADHD, as a primary diagnosis or comorbidity. I utilize research based strategies and direct, consistent instruction to help student improve performance, as evidenced by data. I utilize data to inform my instruction.

I have experience with teaching reading to students with dyslexia, (inability to read), in many settings. I had the opportunity last year to serve as the Reading Interventionist for a K-12 school in Alaska, where I served over 300 students. I have completed 15 semester hours of graduate level Reading Courses with the University of Wisconsin, and as a special needs teacher, I have taught students of all abilities with dyslexia. With over 20 years of experience in education, I have gained many experiences to help develop targeted, effective instruction for students who struggle with reading.
