I don't have experience tutoring, but I have five kids so my entire life is a tutoring session! I also have a deep love for the Spanish language that started with I was in elementary school. While attending UCF I was able to study the acquisition of it as a second language, as well as its intricacies for pronunciation. This is definitely my favorite aspect, and would thoroughly enjoy tutoring people who are interested in improving their pronunciation.
In addition to the language itself, I have always loved the cultures. I lived for some time in South Florida, among many different hispanic backgrounds, cultures and dialects, and I also lived for some time in Texas, which has a large population of Mexicans (totally different from everyone in Miami/Fort Lauderdale area!). I love them all, and I feel it's important to understand the culture if you are truly going to speak the language. I'm happy to share that with everyone!
I am an outstanding Spanish tutor because I love it so much and because I have a unique history and understanding of it. No one else in my entire family speaks Spanish, however because of the way I taught myself as a child, I am classified as a "heritage speaker," or someone who grew up in a Spanish speaking household. This puts me in an excellent position to provide guidance to others learning it, as I have a special understanding closer to a native speaker, but still understand the difficulties that an English speaker is confronted with.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
