Hi, I'm Alissa G., M.A. Spanish, and I enjoy helping students and professionals (high school through adult) achieve their goals in Spanish language, English Language Arts, and Writing. I am patient, detailed, and passionate about all my areas of interest (foreign language, arts and humanities). My rates are always negotiable! I love to provide proofreading and editing services for writing of any discipline. I especially like helping international/ESL students with their writing, since I know how challenging it is to write a scholarly piece in your foreign language! I generally edit at a rate of 6 pages per hour, so you can estimate how long it will take me to work on your piece (this is of course subject to change depending on the essay content).

I have a Master's degree in Spanish and spent almost a year living abroad in Madrid, Spain. I hold a Statement of Eligibility in Florida for K-12 Spanish. I have always loved the Spanish language because of my desire to learn more about my maternal family's Cuban and Spanish ancestry. I didn't grow up bilingual, unfortunately, so I had to learn Spanish in school. It took many years of study, but I finally did it! I am fluent in Spanish and I know how to explain the similarities and differences between English and Spanish to my students. I think the fact that Spanish is my second language is actually a benefit to my students, because I can relate to their journey to second language acquisition, and I know the internal processes of trying to translate idiomatic expressions or ideas. I also know a lot about a native Spanish speaker's mindset because of my experiences communicating with Spanish speakers from all different Hispanic countries. I am fascinated by language and am constantly curious to learn more!

I have experience tutoring high school and college students. My Spanish students have included advanced levels such as honors, IB Spanish, AP Spanish, and graduate level Spanish writing.

When it comes to my tutoring methods, I am casual, relatable, and informal. My personality type is more introverted than extroverted, so I work well one-on-one and enjoy getting to know my students individually. This helps me adapt our sessions to their unique needs. I don't typically use my own materials or curriculum, but can definitely create tailored homework and assignments upon request. Again, it always depends on what the student needs.

I offer both in-person and online tutoring. I work with students all across the country, so no need to worry if you're in a different time zone! I am happy to work with your schedule and adjust mine as needed.

Thanks for taking a look at my profile. I look forward to working with you or your child!

CANCELLATION POLICY - PLEASE READ!!!
For any missed *in-person* sessions that require me to travel to meet you, without at least 2 hours notice (no-shows), you will be charged the *full* lesson fee. Thank you for understanding the time it takes for me to travel to and from our session location, and for communicating clearly to me when you cannot make a session.

For any missed *online* sessions, you will be charged 50% of the lesson fee without 1 hour advance notice on the first session missed. On the second missed session, you will be charged 75% of the full lesson fee. On the third (and final) no-show, I will charge 100% of the lesson fee. I understand that sometimes technical difficulties occur with online lessons, so I am willing to wait 15 minutes, but please be responsible and respectful and do your best to communicate that to me. If you are not online 15 minutes after our scheduled lesson time and you still have not communicated to me at all, I will assume you are a no-show, and will therefore close the session and issue a cancellation fee.

Thanks for taking the time to read the above. I look forward to working with you (or your child)!

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful

Alissa helped me restructure my sentences to create a more engaging essay. She is extremely patient and helped me correct every single sentence I had. She taught me a couple grammar rules that will inevitably help me in the long run. She definitely perfected my paper. Highly recommended!

Excellent proofreading

Alissa has been fantastic in helping me proofread a 45-page thesis. She caught almost all of the little mistakes and had thoughtful and useful commentary. She was often available at the last minute (which was a lifesaver) and even when she wasn't available in time for a round of edits she made sure to send me her comments in time for the next round. I would definitely recommend Alissa to anyone who may speak Spanish with fluency, but struggles with the written word.

Very kind, professional, and also very helpful for Spanish speaker

I’m an international student and English is my second language, so I struggle with English writing the whole time; however, Alissa is very kind and professional and also helped me out with my essay. She corrected my grammar and structure! I fully recommend her as a tutor.

Great service

Alissa helped me twice for my paper. High quality service! My paper was around 19 pages. She only took 30 mins to correct some of my minor errors on the paper. Much better than the writing center they are offering in the universities.
