Hi, I'm Alissa G., M.A. Spanish, and I enjoy helping students and professionals (high school through adult) achieve their goals in Spanish language, English Language Arts, and Writing. I am patient, detailed, and passionate about all my areas of interest (foreign language, arts and humanities). My rates are always negotiable! I love to provide proofreading and editing services for writing of any discipline. I especially like helping international/ESL students with their writing, since I know how challenging it is to write a scholarly piece in your foreign language! I generally edit at a rate of 6 pages per hour, so you can estimate how long it will take me to work on your piece (this is of course subject to change depending on the essay content).

I have a Master's degree in Spanish and spent almost a year living abroad in Madrid, Spain. I hold a Statement of Eligibility in Florida for K-12 Spanish. I have always loved the Spanish language because of my desire to learn more about my maternal family's Cuban and Spanish ancestry. I didn't grow up bilingual, unfortunately, so I had to learn Spanish in school. It took many years of study, but I finally did it! I am fluent in Spanish and I know how to explain the similarities and differences between English and Spanish to my students. I think the fact that Spanish is my second language is actually a benefit to my students, because I can relate to their journey to second language acquisition, and I know the internal processes of trying to translate idiomatic expressions or ideas. I also know a lot about a native Spanish speaker's mindset because of my experiences communicating with Spanish speakers from all different Hispanic countries. I am fascinated by language and am constantly curious to learn more!

I have experience tutoring high school and college students. My Spanish students have included advanced levels such as honors, IB Spanish, AP Spanish, and graduate level Spanish writing.

When it comes to my tutoring methods, I am casual, relatable, and informal. My p

Very Knowledgeable, Patient, and Helpful

Alissa was very timely with everything, and whenever I would send her a message about scheduling, she would reply very quickly. She was very easy to work with, very supportive and patient. She’s also super knowledgeable on Spanish: she’s a native speaker that teaches her language in a way that can be understood by us non- natives. I would definitely recommend her for anything related to Spanish. Thank you so much, Alissa!!

Knowledgable

She provided simple instructions on how to apply the proper tense in Spanish. This information filled the missing piece in his study session for a huge exam. We reach out to Alissa for future tutoring support.

Great tutor! Explains concepts really well!

I had a great experience in the class. Very informative and patient. She was able to connect Spanish to English very well! She was able to explain many concepts that I had overlooked previously. I think my foundation in Spanish will become stronger due to her tutoring.

¡Muchas gracias! Always a pleasure to work with such a motivated student. Thanks for being so engaged during our lesson. I look forward to the next one!

Fantastic Tutor!

My daughter had a low B in Spanish before she started with Alissa. She was really struggling with the subject at the time and looking for new ways to improve. Alissa worked with her on grammar, Spanish speaking and vocab and the least I can say is that I am impressed! My daughter now has an A+ in Spanish and was able to raise her grade back up before the end of the semester. Alissa is patient, supportive, reliable and a fantastic teacher. Now my daughter enjoys learning and speaking Spanish. Alissa, you were a pleasure to work with!!

knowledgeable, patient, and a great communicator

Our daughters take Spanish III Honors through FLVS (on-line). We have had Alissa come to our home to tutor throughout the first semester (approx 10 times) to review and strengthen the online course for our girls. She is very patient and knowledgeable. She has a nice gentle way of presenting topics and asks great questions to make sure the girls are understanding the subject. As a parent, I appreciate her clear and prompt communications as well as her quick responses to texts or emails. She has been a great tutor thus far. We plan to continue to use her for this next semester. Thank you Alissa!

Very Helpful and Friendly

I've taken three lessons with Alissa for Spanish and plan on continuing to study with her. My goal is to learn Spanish for my work in a professional setting, and she has done a great job asking what language concepts, vocabulary, etc. would be helpful for me and catering lessons to focus on those areas. Her explanations of the language have been clear and she's moved forward at a comfortable pace. She's also been friendly and easy to work with. So, overall an excellent tutor who I'd 100% recommend.

Spanish 2 midterm review

Alissa helped me understand everything I haven’t understood since the beginning of the school year in just 1 hour. The way she explains things makes it very simple for me to comprehend. I highly recommend her!
