About Will

I have a passion for making complex concepts make sense in a way that is not overwhelming. With over 10 years experience tutoring, I know I can help you become more confident and even to actually ENJOY the material!

A little more about me: I earned perfect scores on the AP Calculus BC exam as well as the SAT-II Math subject exam, and I became the recipient of both National Merit and Florida Bright Futures Scholarships. I have earned my B.A. in Economics from the University of Florida and Master of Business Administration from Regent University. I was also a member of the Student Honors Organization at U.F. and currently work as a Business Instructor at a local college in central Florida. I am certified to teach upper-level mathematics to high school students for college preparation and will begin doing so for the 2015-16 school year.

I look forward to working with you to help you achieve your academic goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Every man on my father's side of the family has had ADD going back at least three generations. Several of my students have suffered with ADD/ADHD, and I have been able to coach them in methods and techniques that helped me to focus so that I did not get confused or distracted. I also was a substitute teacher for the College Station Independent School District for a few months in Texas, and I mainly worked with mentally challenged middle- and high-school students who had a variety of challenges, including ADD/ADHD.

Dyslexia

Several of my students have suffered with dyslexia as they have been learning the alphabet, how to count, and most other fundamental topics of learning. I have been able to coach them in methods and techniques that helped me to order concepts in my mind so that I did not get them confused with other concepts. I also was a substitute teacher for the College Station Independent School District for a few months in Texas, and I mainly worked with mentally challenged students in middle school and high school.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with many children over the years, some of whom have been family members and some through public, private, and home schools. I find that teaching children is often a much simpler process, even when they are struggling with study methods or learning disabilities. This is because they have not already learned information incorrectly, and therefore they can be steered in the right direction from an early age without any misconceptions in the related subject(s).

Macintosh

I have used Macintosh computers since the late 1990s. In fact, I remember the programs that would allow you to run a Windows operating system on a Macintosh computer. I am quite familiar with the process of running Microsoft Office Suite on a Macintosh operating system, as well as the many keyboard shortcuts specific to Macintosh. There are also many advantages to running popular applications and devices in synchronization with Macintosh computers, such as iPods, iPads, iTunes, iMovie, etc.

Social Studies

Social studies came naturally to me as I went through middle to high school. My area of study for my Bachelor's degree is Economics, which is one of the social sciences that derive from the fundamental concepts of social studies in earlier levels of education. I have helped coach several students through this process, as well as winning the Sons of the American Revolution Award in 8th grade for my ongoing dedication to the study of history and social sciences.

Study Skills

I have always been a good "test taker," and I scored a 1450/1600 on the SAT when I was a junior in high school. I also became a National Merit Scholar (based on PSAT) and earned perfect scores on both the SAT-II Math and AP Calculus BC exams. Studying for entrance exams and/or courses such as Marketing, Management, Finance, Economics, and Business all require mastering the same concepts. The purpose of these study skills is to also understand the material at a deeper level.
