About Jessica

Hello!

I hold a BA in Philosophy with an emphasis on English literature and history, and a M.Ed. in Applied Linguistics/TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have been teaching ESL and humanities for over 5 years, both in the United States and in Saudi Arabia, so I have a lot of experience with many different kinds of learners!

My goal is for my students to feel empowered by their studies--whether language or literature, grammar or writing, what you learn should help you feel more confident in expressing your ideas and in achieving your goals.

I plan lessons that are challenging, but appropriate to my students' needs and interests. I have high expectations, because I know every student has valuable skills and abilities, and I strive to encourage constant growth.

I love language, and even though many students dislike grammar, I think it's a very exciting subject! Grammar gives you the building blocks to take charge of your language use, while reading literature and writing help improve your expressive skills. I'm very passionate about my subjects, and I hope to share that passion with all my students.

I look forward to speaking with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
