I am currently a practicing classroom teacher responsible for 6th and 7th Grade English Language Arts. I have been a part of Milwee Middle Schools SCPS Pre-IB Prep course, preparing students for the rigors of the IB program in high school, for 5 years.
I am certified to teach English 6-12 and possess endorsements in Reading and Gifted. I was recognized by the State of Florida Department of Education as "one of the highest impact teachers in the state" over the last three years. I have been involved in developing curriculum and assessments used in all Seminole County Public Middle Schools for both reading and writing standards.
One of the reasons that I have had so much success working with students is because I recognize that student motivation is one of the most critical elements in student success. As a teacher, I pride myself on my ability to develop strong, positive relationships with students and families. These relationships form the foundation of the all the work we do.
The philosophy of education that I have adopted allows me to frame the work and goals in terms of improvement over current performance, rather than focusing on how far a student has to go to reach proficiency. This philosophy works well in reading and writing with both struggling students and high achieving students because the focus is on improvement rather than meeting an arbitrary level of performance. These circumstances allow me the opportunity to build student morale and self-confidence which, in turn, leads to a higher level of engagement in the student.
I look forward to speaking with you and your student to determine how I can best support their ongoing learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
