After starting out as an engineer, I now have 16 years of experience as a math, physics and electronics teacher and 7 years experience as a tutor. Here are five reasons that You might like to have me tutor you or your children.

(1) First of all, I know the material very well and this helps me to simplify it for the student and make it easier to learn. I am also very aware of how to apply math and physics to everyday life.

(2) I make the tutoring process interesting and pleasant and I am very patient and encouraging and get along well with most students.

(3 I emphasize teaching students how to work problems as a way to learn the course material more efficiently. This approach is more interesting and easier for the student and also helps them to remember what they have learned.

(4) As a result of my engineering and problem solving experience and by observing how students learn, I have found out how important it is to help students get motivated and organized and become more efficient learners. I talk with students about their goals and attitudes and help them to believe in themselves and decide on high standards for themselves.

(5) Finally I am very interested in how the the brain works when learning and solving problems. Based on my classroom and tutoring experience I have developed a problem solving approach which helps students be more confident in problem solving. Since this approach is very helpful but is not taught in schools I am currently writing a book: "Simple Keys to Success in School and Life" to enable more students to learn these techniques.

Therefore as well as being excellent at teaching math and physics, I help students to deal with general issues such as personal goals and attitudes and especially I help them develop better study skills and strategies. As a result I can help students learn a particular subject in less time than you would think. In addition this approach helps students become more effective and well organized in their life in general. Check out my recommendations on the website and see what my students think.

I am available for in person tutoring in the Orlando area and for online tutoring (at a lower rate) anywhere in the country.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have taught various levels of math at a middle high school and at 4 different colleges for more than twelve years and I have tutored math for five years. I have experience teaching and tutoring everything from pre-algebra to calculus and differential equations. I am familiar with what courses an Algebra 1 student typically has already taken and what he needs to learn in order to be ready for his next course. I emphasize teaching students how to work problems. This approach is easier for them to grasp than a more traditional lecture style approach. It is also more interesting for the students. I am good at working with students who are failing and with students who want to get straight A's. I get along well with most students and can make learning interesting. I am very patient and encouraging. I have found in my teaching that most students have not been taught good study habits or test taking skills. Therefore I give my students very specific and useful advice on how to study, and take tests. I also help them develop good problem solving skills. This advice helps my students to learn more easily and do better in their courses.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught the equivalent of high school Algebra 2 at 3 different colleges for more than ten years and I have tutored high school Algebra 2 for four years. I also have experience teaching and tutoring all levels of algebra from from pre-algebra to pre-calculus and college algebra. I am familiar with what courses an Algebra 2 student typically has already taken and what he needs to learn in order to be ready for his next course. I get along well with most students and can make learning interesting. I am very patient and encouraging.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is somewhat different from algebra, but when presented properly it is not that hard to learn. I have a PhD in Physics and so I have a lot of experience using calculus to solve physics problems. I have a good background for teaching both calculus theory and applied calculus. I emphasize teaching students how to work problems. This approach is easier for them to grasp than a more traditional lecture style approach. It is also more interesting for the students. I am good at working with students who are failing and with students who want to get straight A's. I get along well with most students and can make learning interesting. Geometry,

Geometry

I have a PhD in Physics from Harvard and I have taught various levels of math since 1999 and I have tutored math since 2002. I taught high school geometry for one year. I have also used a lot of geometry principles as I studied for my Physics Phd degree. And I have also used many geometry principles as I taught college level physics and electronics and calculus (for 6 years at ITT Tech). I have been tutoring geometry students for the last 5 years at Wyzant - check out my references.
Physics,

Physics

I have a PhD in Physics and I have taught and tutored college math and physics at three different colleges for 8 years. I am sure that I can help you/your child to do well in your/their physics class.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have a PhD in Physics from Harvard - so I learned a lot of math in school and I know Prealgebra and Algebra very well. I have taught various levels of math at 5 different colleges since 1999. In particular I taught prealgebra at Epping Middle High school (for 1 year in 1999) and at ITT Tech (for 8 years starting in 2000). More recently I have been tutoring prealgebra at Wyzant since 2011 - check out my recommendations.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have a PhD in Physics from Harvard - so I know Algebra Precalculus and Calculus very well. I have taught various levels of math at 5 different colleges since 1999. In particular I taught algebra, PRECALCULUS (advanced algebra) and calculus at ITT Tech for 7 years starting in 2001. More recently I have been tutoring these courses at Wyzant since 2011 - check out my recommendations.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have done both SAT and FCAT tutoring. For all of these tests, we need to work through a workbook that has sample problems. A SAT workbook can be purchased at a bookstore. I recommend the Kaplan book. In order to do well on the test, it is important to master the material in the sample tests. This may take a longer or shorter time -- depending on the students background and ability. If the student needs a lot of preparation, you may want to tutor more than once a week.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have done both SAT and FCAT tutoring -- which are similar to the ACT test. For all of these tests, we need to work through a workbook that has sample problems. I recommend the Kaplan test prep book for the SAT test and the Cliff Notes Test Prep Book for the ACT test. These can be purchased at a bookstore or at Amazon. In order to do well on the test, it is important to master the material in the sample tests. This may take a longer or shorter time -- depending on the student's background and ability. I have a PhD in physics (from Harvard University paid for by a full national scholarship) I have worked as an engineer at three companies and taught middle high school and college math, physics, and electronics at 5 different schools plus tutored at Wyzant for eight years. Check out my references. I am very encouraging and explain things in the simplest way possible. I am now writing a book on how to develop better study habits. It turns out that most of the problems students have with math are related to poor study habits. So my teaching good study habits can give a big boost to a student's math ability. I can teach your son on the Wyzant online platform.

Patient, Kind, and Flexible

We very much appreciated Dr. Ladd's schedule flexibility, his kind demeanor, and patience. He uses an abundance of analogies and examples to explain different concepts. If your student is struggling with skills needed to study and focus he will very helpful.

Dedicated and Patient Tutor

Larry has superior knowledge of the subject material. He is really interested in changing his student's attitude towards school and encouraging them to be successful students in all areas. It is great to have a tutor that holds education in such high regards. This is shown in his method of interacting with his students. He not only teaches all areas of math, but helps the student to develop important study skills so that they can apply this to other subject areas.

Great TIPS And Prepared to teach!

I learned a lot with Larry, he showed me notes that he has for his Physics classes. They were so much help and his study tips help organize my thoughts out on paper. On my first test I got an A a 97.5% and only missed one question that I was mixed up on. That is awesome considering math is not my thing. This is my first time taking Physics and at a college level.

Excellent

Went through some college calculus topics and was able to understand the concepts well. He was able to teach in a manner where I could understand the information on a deeper level.
