About Christopher

Hello. I'm a professional tutor for the greater Orlando area with years of experience. A lot of people do this on the side. This is my profession. My only job is to prepare you to meet your goals.

I have a flexible teaching style that I can adapt to your needs. Do you want to truly master your subject? No problem! Do you need to get your grade and pass your class so you can get on with what you're really interested in? Also not a problem.

I have the broadest subject certification of any tutor in the Orlando area. Wherever you have decided that you're going in life, I can help you get there.

I specialize in standardized test preparation, math and science.

If you need lessons for an academic math or science course, we will start by identifying gaps in your understanding of the key principles and skills that underlie the subject. Believe it or not, math and science can be easy with the proper focus. People tend to get lost in the details, but everything looks simpler when the details become just different ways to apply key concepts.

Feedback from my students indicates that my instruction consistently exceeds commercial test preparation courses because I can meet you exactly where you're at, rather than being bound by a fixed lesson plan. This means that you will get extra support for your weak spots, and won't have to waste time and money going over things that you are already comfortable with.

My personal education has involved a very broad base in math and the sciences, which has been strengthened by extensive research experience.

You can count on my knowledge and patience.

My schedule is very flexible, and I can work around your time constraints. My posted rate is for single lessons, and is negotiable if you would like to book me for a semester, or for a 10+ hour block to get ready for a standardized test.

I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

As a scientist, I have a strong background in mathematics with practical application.

That has turned out to be key in the success of my teaching style.

An unfortunate side effect of modern mathematics education is that it is structured with the unspoken assumption that you're going to be getting a PhD in math some day.

When the theoretical baggage is stripped away, you're going to be amazed at how simple math can be to understand. It's usually just the mastery of a few simple ideas, and learning how to apply them.

I minored in biochemistry as an undergraduate, achieving an A in both semesters and the laboratory section. I scored at the 100th percentile on the ACS biochemistry exam.

My theoretical knowledge was heavily padded with practical experience with 5 years of research experience in a tuberculosis immunology lab at the University of Notre Dame in which a wide variety of biochemical techniques were necessary for some of the lines of research.

My undergraduate degree was in biology, with a minor in biochemistry.

I studied a very broad range of subjects, with particular focus on genetics and cell and molecular biology.

My theoretical background was strengthened considerably with 5 years of hands on research experience in a Tuberculosis immunology lab at the University of Notre Dame.

I minored in Computer Science as an undergraduate. I completed 3 semesters of C++ programming and miscellaneous upper level coursework. I am very familiar with the logical structure of procedural programming languages.

My science education included heavy emphasis on chemistry, especially biochemistry.

As a freshman I received the CRC award for Excellence in Chemistry, and achieved the 99th and 100th percentile on the national ACS Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry exams.

I've helped a lot of students master the subject over the years, from academics to industry.

I had a strong undergraduate education in genetics as well as molecular and cellular biology.

I also have five years of experience applying those skills in a research setting in which I performed most of the molecular biology and genetics techniques for a tuberculosis immunology lab at the University of Notre Dame.

I have been working with geometry students for several years, and have become very familiar with the curriculum used in Florida.

I emphasize a very methodical approach to this particular subject.

Only a small handful of key relationships are covered at one time in a typical geometry course, so I make sure the student understands those key relationships first, and then develops the skill to recognize and apply those key relationships in the variety of ways they show up in practice problems.

I've helped a number of people successfully improve their scores on the general GRE exam over the years.

When I took it, I scored 680 on the Verbal section, and 780 on the math section.

Whatever area you need to improve in, I can help. If you need a better understanding of the material, I can provide that instruction.

I can also help you prepare your test taking strategy with an understanding of the structure of the exam and the scoring algorithms used. It's not just a matter of how many questions you answer correctly.

Martial Arts

I teach judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu as well as self defense. I no longer compete, but as a teenager I competed and placed 2nd in the USJA national judo championships. I have extensive experience teaching both martial arts, having been an instructor at both Indiana University South Bend and the University of Notre Dame.

I am an experienced tutor in all areas covered on the MCAT.

My undergraduate degree and 5 years of research experience were in the field of biology, specializing in infectious disease.

I have been tutoring general, organic and biochemistry for several years, and achieved scores at the 99th or 100th percentile on all of the associated ACS exams.

I have extensive test prep experience working with GMAT and GRE students as well.

In college, I took microbiology and medical microbiology, receiving an A+ in both courses. Professionally, I spent 5 years doing molecular biology in a tuberculosis immunology lab.

Organic Chemistry

As an undergraduate, I completed 2 semesters of organic chemistry with an A, and achieved a score of 99th percentile on the ACS national organic chemistry exam. As a researcher at the University of Notre Dame, the biological research I was involved in required both an explicit and intuitive understanding of carbon based molecules.

I have a high level of competence in all areas covered in the test. I'm highly qualified to tutor math, biology and chemistry, and have been successful tutoring reading, English, and comprehension skills for a number of other standardized tests including the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, and GRE.

Chris exceeded my expectations — Chris has played an instrumental role in helping me solidify my organic chemistry foundation. He was able to fix my weak spots while providing me with a rock solid chemistry foundation that I will take into my higher level science courses. In a class with a professor that didn't teach, Chris essentially became a tutor and a teacher combined. Thanks to his help, I was able to enter every exam with ...
