I have been an teacher for 20 years. I LOVE teaching and helping my students succeed. Watching their confidence grow as they succeed is inspiring, and I am fortunate to have been a part of many of these experiences. I have worked with students from ages 4-17 in Reading, Writing, and learning the English language. I was also a librarian for three years and LOVE to read! The Harry Potter series is one of my all-time favorites. :)
I am married and have a daughter, Lily, in middle school. I also have a dog named Sami (she's a sweet 9-year-old Smooth Collie). We live in a wonderful neighborhood that is very close to one of my favorite libraries, Brandywine Hundred Public Library (although New Castle County has so many fabulous libraries).
I have my ESL certification and have worked with English Language Learners for most of my teaching career. I believe in providing multi-media experiences as part of the learning process.
I have my Reading Specialist certification and LOVE to teach my students the ins and outs of the reading process. I have a special way to break down the process so that reading becomes more of a joy and less of a chore. I use the computer, as well as good old-fashioned word and sound sorts (and books, of course) to help my students gain the skills they need to become confident readers.
I LOVE SPELLING!!! I need one of those shirts that say "I am silently correcting your grammar" because I am constantly proofreading and editing in my head. I have loved spelling since I was a child. I teach spelling through spelling patterns and helping my students make connections between words, which will make spelling a breeze!
Please feel free to email me any time! I will respond promptly, usually within the hour. We'll "talk" for a bit in order to introduce ourselves so that you are comfortable working with me as your tutor. I look forward to helping you succeed! I have been an teacher for 20 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
