About Chelsea

My name is Chelsea and I graduated from Widener University with a Bachelor's in Elementary and Special Education in 2014. During my time at Widener I performed field experience every semester. I have had countless hours of classroom experience and student taught in an inclusive classroom for 14 weeks my senior spring semester. During that time I worked with ten students with IEPs that had learning needs ranging from Autistic Support to ADHD.

After graduating, I became a building substitute working with grades 3-5 every day and then summer school teacher for a district in Delaware County. Last school year, I accepted a position as a special education teacher at a charter school in Philadelphia working with students grades K-8. This year, I am working in a charter school in Wilmington as a special education teacher in the 5th grade.

I am certified in Elementary General Education and Special Education in both Pennsylvania and Delaware. This year, I am helping co-teach in the 5th grade to help support my special education students in the general education classroom. At my previous school, I helped to set up an Emotional Support classroom to help students with behavioral needs. I have also had 2 years of experience working with students with Autism. For the past five years, I have also worked part time at a preschool working with children 1-5 years old, working as a Pre-K teacher for some of that time.

In the future, I hope to get a certification in art education and to continue gaining knowledge of special education and new practices. I look forward to hearing from you about the opportunity to help your child.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I graduated in May 2014 from Widener University with a dual certification in elementary and special education. During my student teaching I worked directly with several students diagnosed with ADHD. I worked with these students in and out of the general education classroom. I continued my work with students diagnosed with ADHD with my last two teaching placements in charter schools in inner cities.

Elementary (K-6th)

I went to Widener University and received a degree and certification in Elementary Education. During my senior year, I student taught in 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. I have worked in two elementary schools and I have worked for four years in a Pre-K setting as well. Currently I work in a charter school as a special education teacher with grades K-8

Elementary Math

Elementary Math grades Pre-K through 4th grade. I have worked mainly with 3rd and 4th grade math in my employments and experiences through various districts. I have worked as a tutoring teacher for a school district for two years in their summer school program as well.

Handwriting

I have worked in a Pre-K environment for four years. I also am working as a special education teacher with students K-8. One area of focus in both jobs is helping students improve their handwriting.

Phonics

For the past four years I have worked in a Preschool with Pre-K aged children. I have also worked as an elementary and special education teacher. Both of these jobs have given me phonics instruction experience. As a special education teacher, I have also learned how to adapt phonics instruction to learning styles specific to individual children.

Vocabulary

I am certified in Elementary education grades K-4 and Special education grades K-8. When working with students, I have had experience working with vocabulary in both settings. As a special education teacher, I have also learned creative ways to engage students in vocabulary practice.

Writing

As a special education teacher, I have helped many of my students improve with writing. I have various resources that will help improve a student's writing style. Of my current caseload, I have 8 out of 11 students with writing goals that I have helped to make progress.
