Learning to play an instrument should be a pleasant experience. This does not mean it can be done without hard work. My goal is to get the job done with valid encouragement and enjoyment for the student. If a child feels pushed or punished it is unlikely that he or she will progress for very long.
My approach is traditional. Scales, exercises and pieces are necessary - but they will be tailored to the needs of the student. Once basics are learned individualization can take place and every effort will be made to teach music acceptable to the student in addition to lesson related pieces.
I hold a Bachelor of Music Education K-12. I have 10 plus years of active teaching experience and I have taught in public school.

My kids are showing lot of excitement to learn piano with her teaching. Karen is motivating the kids by being so friendly and teaching them in a fun way.
Very understanding, always on time. She is very reliable, patient and caring. Makes sure the kid gets the concept by spending more time on it.
My husband and I would highly recommend her as a piano tutor to anyone seeking to learn piano.
Karen teaches my 5 year old boy and has been working with him close to 6 months. She loves teaching and is very patient and works passionately and individualizes the lesson to meet expectations.
I really look forward to my lessons with Karen. Our time is a good balance of discussion and practice. Karen focuses on technique, explaining the why and how clearly. She always checks for understanding and takes time to review whatever is needed so I have what I need for practice. I always leave my lesson feeling encouraged and ready to tackle a new piece or to refine one in progress.
I simply went on line and Googled for piano teachers and I found WyzAnt and then found Karen. I am absolutely thrilled with her teaching me and my child.
My 8-year-old daughter's first lesson was very productive. Karen quickly assessed the appropriate level to start with, and gave her very kid-friendly ways to help with counting and correct finger position. Karen is pleasant to work with, and I can tell she places a high value on making sure that lessons are a good experience for the student!
Having no prior piano experience, without being able to read music at all and not even knowing which keys were which Karen made the lesson as easy as possible. One lesson down and I can't stop practicing. I'm an adult student so I must imagine its a little more difficult to teach music too (maybe not though) but she was so sweet and patient with me. I can not wait until our next lesson. Plus I can't wait to show her all I've done in just one nights work! Highly recommend!
Karen S. is the best tutor for learning music notation and for learning the piano. Karen S. is the best piano tutor to choose for lessons at the beginner level all the way up to and including the expert level. My personal account to follow includes to why and of how she has helped me with the piano.
As a college student, I thought it was too late for me to learn music notation. I perceived music notation as a difficult thing that I would just give up on. For example, I thought music notation was just not going to work with my brain, but it turns out it is for anyone if Karen S. is your tutor. Incrementally, I am learning more and more and getting the hang of things. What Karen S. does is absolutely marvelous. She converts the complexity of learning notes into a simplicity of learning notes by implementing some of the best techniques that work. And it doesn't stop there. Karen S. also makes learning the piano an enjoyable time. When it comes to memorization, she is instilling some of the best things such as recall like "okay now teach me as if I didn't know how to do it." In addition, she keeps a perfect track of where you are with everything you learned and she matches this with flashcards to further test your memory/recall. Karen S. has great book recommendations to help advance you further in your music abilities and she really teaches in a great structured way. Aside from this she has the innate ability to count and see if your rhythm or tempo are off key and she also has a metronome that helps your rhythm and tempo even more. Karen S. also corrects my errors flawlessly. For example, Karen S. even knows exactly what note I hit incorrectly if she is looking in my practice book rather than directly looking at my fingers, which I find impressive and extremely helpful. Why wouldn't you want to know EXACTLY 100% what your flaw is? Not only does she have all of these resources and techniques, but she instills a great deal of motivation to help you signficantly on the way. Karen S. has all of the abilities to coach you on and make you a success. Karen S. will make learning simple for you, take it from me, I did not have faith in myself whatsoever. I honestly did not think I would go through with notation EVER, let alone go through with the piano, but she has inspired me of this new passion in life. I now love the art, sound, and possibilities of this instrument, of this piano. I must emphasize again, she instills success. Whether if you are a beginner or whether if you are an advanced pianist, Karen S. will make you better and better with her unique abilities and effective teaching styles. Karen S. is highly recommended, do not miss out on this great tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
