Dear Potential Student:

Hi! My name is Cheryl.

I should begin by telling you that I love tutoring children in their educational basics so they do well in life. Basics are an essential start to education and once you have these basics you can successfully build on them.

My studies include a cum laude Associate Degree in Liberal Arts along with a certification in teaching basic skills from California. I have also attended California State University in Northridge, California.

My teaching techniques with pre-school and kindergarten children involve singing the alphabet and using playthings for counting exercises. I sometimes play classical music in the background of a tutoring session as it keeps a child calm, hence, they concentrate better.

I enjoy helpibg children with their homework and tutoring them in problem areas.

I am direct and honest with children when instructing them and this seems to be a good technique as my nieces are doing very well in school. Additionally, I have tutored friends' children in their pre-school/kindergarden lessons to ensure they get into good elementary schools. I have had many successes as the children I tutor get into good schools.

I hope you will consider me to be your tutor.

Cheryl

The goal of primary education is to achieve literacy among students. I have attended college and, subsequently, have tutored students in the subjects of math, science, geography, history and social sciences The students I have tutored range in age from 5 through 11. It is important for children in this age group to get the basics of their subjects. I like the "hands on" method of teaching as it allows the student to practice what has been taught. I find that 30 minute lessons get the best results for this age group as their attention span is short.

Good study habits are necessary to succeed in school. Finding a strategy for studying effectively makes all the difference. It is important to determine if the student is a visual, audio or active learner. Determine which way the student learns best (e.g. how he/she can obtain information, take notes and improve her/his memory). Don’t allow procrastination. Have a schedule for each subject at times that work best for the student; he/she should be well rested; he/she should work in an area that is comfortable for them; the study area should be organized; prioritize their tasks; set realistic goals-break tasks into small manageable parts; take breaks every 30-40 minutes; encourage student to find a good study partner or study group.
