I work in the human resources department at a division of an S&P 500 company & was tasked with finding a tutor for one of our employees. Judy has been a huge help with the employee whose first language is not English. We've been scheduling time one a week for her to come into the office and provide one hour lessons. I'd highly recommend Judy for any person looking for an ESL tutor.
Judy is a very experienced tutor in teaching Chinese students knowing the pronunciation issues they are struggling with. She has been my tutor since Spring 2016 and helped me to improve my pronunciation greatly. She patiently corrects any syllables, letters, words, and sentences that I have difficulty pronouncing. She was able to find the reasons why I was not able to pronounce the words correctly and led me on the right path. What she taught me is the comprehensive English, not only pronunciation but also native English speaking ways, writing, and presentation. My English level and confidence in all aspects have been increased significantly. People can easily understand me when I am speaking on the phone. For example, I am able to clearly pronounce any consonant in the ending of any word. Of course, it is an on-going process, more and more practice and application in daily life and work are necessary. That is why Judy has been monitoring and continues to work on my progress. She is working very hard to tailor the teaching materials specifically for my situation and utilizes our time in every class. Now she is leading me to a high level of English so that I will be a better speaker and writer than I ever imagined. I received many complimentary words from the audiences for the talks I delivered in the major conferences. Many thanks to Judy for her effective teaching. I should have had her as my tutor as soon as I moved to the US twenty years ago.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Dynamics which is Business. I also worked 20+ years in customer service. Besides tutoring, I possess Business skills, personality, and have a work ethic.
I have tutored adults from other countries. I have completed tutor training with a concentration in English Language Learner Focus. My experience is one-on-one with a student or in a small group setting. My students have made level gains in their skills.
As part of my tutoring, I focus on the needs of students. Students frequently ask for help with grammar which increases their speaking and writing ability. I have helped students with nouns, regular and irregular verbs, verb tenses, infinitives, gerunds ... just to name a few.
My experience in helping a student with his reading is to give him a topic he is interested in and then build on it with a cloze exercise, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary activities.
I tutored a student with her ninth grade homework. My employer wrote a letter of recommendation and said that I take my responsibilities very personally. I am engaged and enthusiastic in all aspects of my work. I am hard working and dedicated and take pride in my work.
