In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I currently teach Algebra I at Wilmington University. The text used is Mathematics with Applications, 10th edition, Lial/Hungerford/Holcomb. Subject matter dealt with include:

Algebra and Equations, Graphs, Lines and Inequalities, Functions and Graphs, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Mathematics of Finance, Systems of Linear Equations and Matrices.

Focus areas are: What is Science?, Study of Physics (Motion, Energy, Heat and Temperature, Wave Motions and Sound, Electricity, Light), and study of Chemistry (Atoms and the Periodic Properties, Chemical Bonds, Chemical Reactions, Water and Solutions, Organic Chemistry).

General subject matter covered: Addition/Subtraction, Multiplication/Division; Factoring and Lowest Common Denominator; Fraction Notation; Decimal Notation; Percent Notation; Exponential Notation and Order of Operations; Geometry; Word Problems.
