Presently I am s Supplemental Faculty at the University of Delaware and have been teaching various courses in the Mathematics area such as algebra, calculus and differential equations. In addition, I am a tutor at the Academic Enrichment Center at the University where I have tutored frehmen and sophmore students in different areas of mathematics. I hold a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering and while pursuing my degree at Drexel University in Philadelphia I was a tutor at the Drexel Center for Learning and Instruction for 6 years. During this phase, I taught students individually and in groups
in the areas of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Engineering. While tutoring students, I cater to the different learning styles and methods to students. As an example, I use diagrams and slides for visual learners, examples for students who are more quantitative, body language for kinesthetic learners and give group projects to students who learn better in groups. I try to relate my teaching to students' backgrounds; for example, if there are chemical engineering and chemistry students and I am teaching a mathematics class on differential equations, I shall show them an example using differential equations for a mixing tank and if there are physics students then I shall show them an example using a couple mass/spring system. I explain the subject step by step and build on the concepts as I go along. As a result, when I move to the next topic students have a chance to refer to the material that was covered earlier. I interact well with students and ask them questions and encourage them to ask me questions as I go along. This makes the learning process very effective. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
