Hyles-Anderson College (Master's)
Hello, my name is Sam, I am a graduate of Hyles-Anderson College. I began tutoring in high school, I worked with first and second grade on their arithmetic while acting as the teachers assistant. At the same time I also was asked to with a fellow student in the 9th grade in order to help improve his algebra over the course of several weeks. This ignited my love for tutoring and would help me in my future employment at A+ tutoring.
During my final year in college while working as an intern I took up a job at a tutoring/learning company as an independent contractor. I worked with my first two students as basic instructors helping them in any subjects they needed at the time. I later specialized in any students who had hit a wall in any particular subject. including reading, algebra, arithmetic, and history.
My belief when it comes to tutoring is that we are not supposed to be necessary after a certain amount of time. The first priority is to teach the requested subject, but the number one importance is to teach the student to learn. If a student is still dependent on a tutor to pass after a six to eight month period I count that as a failure. In short my goal is to make you not need me; if you want to stay with me that's great, but I don't want your child to be trapped in a pay or fail situation. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with elementary children most of my life. I began by working with first and second graders while still in high school. My duties began as grading their work and quickly moved to working with them to correct their papers and identifying reasons for incorrect answers, especially recurring problems. I have tutored as my main employment throughout the 2013-2014 school year as an independent tutor under A+ Tutoring. The student improvement was notable, as the records will show. I assisted students in multiple subjects during my time at the company.
I have taken classes in algebra up through algebra III, and tutored Math to high school students since high school. It is not only the simplest for me to teach it is also most enjoyable. my students have letter grade improvements in notably short times, and generally remain in mid to high A's.
