Island Drafting and Technical Institute (CAD Drafting)
I am a licensed professional instructor at the College and Corporate Level. I have been teaching AutoCAD since 1991 and am proud to say that over 90% of my former students are now working doing Computer Aided Drafting. Occasionally I will run into a former student who will tell me that I was instrumental in their professional success. Hearing that always puts a smile on my face.
In 2007, I started teaching and supporting Revit for an Autodesk reseller. I found the program to be so intuitive that I was hooked forever. To be able to change something in one view and have that change propagate to all of the views (2D & 3D), schedules, etc, totally amazes me.
I truly believe that Revit is going to revolutionize the way that Architects and Engineers model and document their designs. Already, I have seen Bid Documents require that all drawings for a project be done in Revit Architecture, Revit Structure or Revit MEP.
This summer, I am scheduled to start teaching Revit at the New York Institute of Architecture in their evening program. I can't wait to spread the word. Thomas is extremely knowledgeable. He was very patient since I am new to Autocad. He took the time to explain things thoroughly so I would not be overwhelmed.
Very, very thorough. At times when reviewing he must be reminded that it's a review.
I have no complaints with his being so thorough since he will focus on the question in hand immediately and provide a solution.
His knowledge of autocad and how to use it is extraordinary.
Great, patient teacher, knows the material well, and explains it in a way that I can easily understand.
We work on things that I need to improve on in a very thorough and organized way.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began teaching AutoCAD in 1991 at a 2 year college where I had taught 18 different versions starting with release 10 for DOS. I have maintained my certification with Autodesk for every release since then including the latest which is release 2016 for Windows. I also teach AutoCAD MEP and AutoCAD Architecture.
Prior to teaching AutoCAD professionally, I am required by Autodesk to pass a comprehensive test. I have done so for every release of AutoCAD since I began teaching.
In 2007, I went to work for an Autodesk reseller who, knowing my background sent me to Autodesk facilities in places such as New Jersey, Rhode Island and Las Vegas to enable me to be trained in Revit. With all of the concentrated class work conducted by Autodesk's finest Instructors under my belt, I took the Certification Exam that same year and passed on my first attempt.
Recently, Autodesk combined Revit Architecture, Revit MEP and Revit Structure into one program. I am proud to say that I am certified at the Instructor level in all 3 specializations.
