West Chester University (English Education)
Immaculata University (MEd)
Attending West Chester University as an undergraduate and then Immaculata University as a graduate student, I try to live the philosophy of teacher as learner. My goal in teaching has always been to instill in students a love of learning and to try to help them investigate themselves and the world to find out what they love to do. When I came across WyzAnt, it seemed to be the perfect job. I get to help kids learn and make time for my family as well.
I have been a teacher of middle school and high school English for the past 12 years. I have a strong grammar background as well as experience teaching American Literature, middle school reading, and composition. I have taught all grades between seventh and tenth. When conducting a tutoring session I plan to help students set goals and achieve them. I want them to learn from me, but also learn how to self-monitor and correct. After meeting with students and their parents, I can set up a plan of action and plan ahead for the needs of each lesson to ensure student success.
While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I do offer make up lessons.
For tutoring sessions, I am willing to come to your home (within 20 miles of my own) or meet at the library.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your goals. Rates can be negotiated. For example, if you have more than one student who needs to be tutored, we could work out a discount. Or we could bundle lessons, for example 5 lessons for $200.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
