I have been teaching for over 10 years in various settings. I started out teaching English while living in Mexico at a private tutoring center. My classes ranged from one on one to about 15 students and all ages (from about 5 years old to adults). After moving back to the US, I taught Spanish for the medical profession at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Pennsylvania before getting a permanent position at an elementary school in Philadelphia. I taught 5th and 6th grade for 6 years before moving to southern Delaware, where I am currently employed as a middle school Spanish teacher. The moment I stepped in front of a class for the first time I knew I was meant to teach. I particularly enjoy tutoring because it provides me with an opportunity to get to know a student's learning style and to go at a pace that is comfortable.
I am a Spanish buff! I have always excelled in Spanish classes and since it was my major in college I am very knowledgeable in literature, culture, grammar, speaking, and listening skills. My 4 years of experience teaching Spanish have made me more aware of how troubling and confusing a language can be for others. It gives me so much pleasure to see a student begin to understand a topic that previously confused them. I love Spanish and want my students to love it, too!
I use various resources depending on what my students need-whether it is to learn basic Spanish, or to help proofread an essay for your AP class.
I am available in the evenings during the week and some weekends and charge $40/hour for in person tutoring and $30/hour for online tutoring. I look forward to hearing from you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
