Bio

As a dedicated learner, with a 4.0 GPA in both high school and college, I have the background and desire to teach, and I am proud of my many honors in scholastics. I am a MENSA member and National Merit Scholar. I also have 30 years in the computer industry before I began tutoring for over six years and substitute teaching for over two years. In addition, I was a certified corporate trainer for eight years.

If I can help a student set aside his fears long enough for that first glimpse of understanding to cross his face, I know I've helped him experience the thrill of learning, and his confidence has bloomed, making comprehension come more quickly thereafter. It really helps to have great teachers.

I scored a 742 on my SATs in math back when the test was more difficult than it is today, and I had honors in math, English, science, music, and French as the high school valedictorian. I tutored a teacher's child in math while I was still in high school at his request, and I was in an accelerated program in all subjects. I enjoyed several math classes in college; they were my favorite. I'm also an excellent tutor in English, grammar, writing, and literature and well aware of how vital is it to be able to write effectively.

Please contact me with any questions whatsoever; I look forward to facilitating your growing knowledge and better grades in school. I especially stress the basics in every subject, and it sometimes helps to take a couple steps backward to establish a strong foundation on which to build.
I will travel up to 20 miles to accommodate a student but do charge an extra travel fee for anything over 10 miles. If more convenient for you, you can meet me at my home as long as you have a parent with you if you are under age. If any parent is dissatisfied with a tutoring session, there will be no charge or I will offer a makeup class. In addition, I offer makeup classes if you cancel within 24 hours.

I have been a substitute teacher in the elementary grades for over two years. Also, I have privately tutored elementary students in reading, comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and spelling, plus math of all elementary grades. I have also worked with elementary students with Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. for over two years.

I have an aptitude for being able to explain math in its simplest terms, and I'm very encouraging when it comes to promoting comprehension, both of which are vital as your child progresses in school.

I tutored K through college for over two years with Back to Basics Learning Dynamics in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, paragraph structuring, parts of speech, sentences, research papers, writing in general, and literature and comprehension. I also received an award in English, among several others, when I graduated as valedictorian. I am a former MENSA member and National Merit Scholar, who could not have achieved a 4.0 GPA in both high school and college without an exhaustive command of the English language and all its rules.

My SAT score in math was 742, back when the test was much more difficult than it is now. Since scholastics came easily to me, I feel I'm able to simplify math rules for students, as I did for both my daughters all the way through school and college.

Excellent tutor. Several instructions in and could not be more pleased.

Leah has been very confident in her knowledge and a great resource for my daughter in tutoring for the upcoming SAT in March. We are several sessions in at this point and confident that our daughter will be in a strong position for the upcoming test. Leah is thorough, knowledgeable and explains the material in a manner that has been well instructed as well as absorbed by my daughter. VERY pleased! Thank you Leah!
