About Erin

I graduated magna cum laude from Hope College in Holland, MI and earned a B.A. degree with a double-major in psychology and communication (departmental honors). Following this, I attended the University of Iowa College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree.

While at the University of Iowa College of Law, I was a student writer and contributing editor for the Iowa Law Review, assistant director for the Trial Advocacy Executive Board, the competitive trial advocacy team, and teaching assistant to a former Iowa Supreme Court Justice. In addition to my academic activities, I served in several volunteer organizations and assisted immigrant victims of domestic abuse through the MUNA legal clinic and represented clients through the University of Iowa College of Law Legal Clinic in criminal defense and employment discrimination cases.

During my two summers in law school, I worked as a judicial law clerk intern for a Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and as a summer associate at civil law firm. Upon graduating law school, I worked at a civil law firm and then became the special victim’s unit prosecutor for a county and handled crimes against children, felony sexual assaults, and crimes against the elderly. After my time as a SVU prosecutor, I taught a couple law courses at a community college and did contract legal side work.

After practicing the law for a while, I decided to change careers. Presently, I am attending a graduate post-baccalaureate premed program. While I take pre-requisite courses to prepare for the MCAT and medical school applications, I am a volunteer EMT and columnist with PreMedLife Magazine. So, I am also qualified to teach in science coursework. Last semester, I was even a biology lab teaching assistant.

Overall, I can offer attention to details, diligent resourcefulness, and an enthusiasm for helping you reach your goals in a variety of subject areas including: psychology; biology; microbiology; chemistry; public speaking; writing; research; communication; and passing standardized exams such as the LSAT and Bar Exam.

So, if you're struggling in any of these subjects...message me and let's get started!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bar Exam

In 2009, I graduated magna cum laude from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and earned a B.A. degree with a double-- major in psychology and communication (departmental honors). Following this, I attended the University of Iowa College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in May 2012.

While at the University of Iowa College of Law, I was a student writer and contributing editor for the Iowa Law Review, assistant director for the Trial Advocacy Executive Board, the competitive trial advocacy team, and teaching assistant to Professor David Baker, former Iowa Supreme Court Justice. In addition to my academic activities, I served in several volunteer organizations and assisted immigrant victims of domestic abuse through the MUNA legal clinic and represented clients through the University of Iowa College of Law Legal Clinic in criminal defense and employment discrimination cases.

During my two summers in law school, I worked as a judicial law clerk intern for the Honorable Marcia Phillips Parsons, Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and as a summer associate at The Spence Firm (Gerry Spence's firm) in Jackson, Wyoming. Upon graduating law school, I worked at a civil law firm in Conyers, Georgia and focused on pharmaceutical products liability cases. I then became the special victim’s unit prosecutor for Walton County, Georgia and handled crimes against children, felony sexual assaults, and crimes against the elderly. After my time as a SVU prosecutor, I taught a couple law courses at a community college and did contract legal side work.

Biology

I'm a post-bac premed student at American University and have already successfully taken basic biology courses as well as advanced courses such as microbiology (A+ student). Also, I was a teaching assistant for a biology lab section at American University last semester and am currently doing lab research for my organic chemistry professor. Biology is not a difficult subject but it oftentimes requires bringing together multiple disciplines to gain a thorough mastery.

Currently, am a tutor for other science students. Also, I do organic chemistry research for a professor at a college in DC and also have been a biology TA for a college course.

Very patient and flexible

The weekend before my test Erin spent over 7 hours going over my practice exams with me. I'm a freshman at Georgetown, so the material was pretty difficult, but we battled on even when I got frustrated or couldn't understand a concept for a while. It was nice to work with someone so patient!
