About Alanna

Are you a high-school or college student struggling to write A-papers? Having trouble analyzing literature and poetry? Starting the Spanish language and feeling overwhelmed? Applying to college with no idea where to start, how to advertise yourself, or how to get admitted? Well, look no further - help is HERE!

I am a senior Sociology major in the top 10% of my class at Georgetown University with previous University credits and academic honors from Stanford University. While in high school, I taught a writing and discussion-intensive online course about human trafficking in Asia to high school students. I was also one of few students at my high school nominated by the faculty to write a thesis for publication - mine being a 50 page analytic research paper on global human trafficking. Since high school, I have received top academic honors for maintaining a 3.9 GPA throughout my time at Georgetown and founded an inter-collegiate fundraising charity organization. I am currently a part of the minority pre-law society on campus and intend after graduation in the Spring to enroll in a top 10 law school in the U.S.

I have always felt most at home tutoring older students. Having not that long ago experienced high school and currently being in the last year of my collegiate career I understand and personally connect with the contexts in which these particular aged students are learning. I focus on one-on-one tutoring of high school and college-aged students, primarily in subjects involving heavy reading, writing, and text analysis as well as Spanish language for beginners - both in person and through online platforms such as blackboard. I also especially enjoy aiding students with their college applications/personal statements/college searches!

I bring to the table skills, tips, and tricks not only gained through personal experience as a student, teacher, and tutor but also from actively collaborating with both collegiate professors and high school teachers to create comprehensive guidelines to succeeding in these subjects. I also believe in the importance of collaborating with students' individual teachers, because succeeding in any course relies first and foremost on an understanding of your teacher's syllabus and general grading criteria. I start every tutoring relationship by sitting down and helping my students identify their academic strengths and weaknesses. From there, I construct an individualized approach to your tutoring to maximize your strengths while working to eliminate those weaknesses so you can thrive in each element of your courses. By training you in particular academic and organizational habits as well as teaching you how to "size up" then "strategize" an approach to each course, I help you to succeed not only in the particular topics we cover in sessions, but also in every other course you take as a student! I am here to help my students take their courses by the "horns" and become autonomous, A-earning learners! I have tutored consistently for more than six years at this point, because I have a passion for helping students THRIVE!

To give you a little more information on my experience in the subjects I tutor, I have formally studied Spanish for over 7 years, consistently receiving top scores, and have lived for various lengths of time in primarily Spanish-speaking regions both in Spain and Peru. I have tutored beginner's Spanish in person and through online platforms to high school and college students for over 6 years with consistent improvement in all of my students' Spanish language abilities, with their grades wonderfully reflecting this improvement! English, reading, writing, text analysis, and everything in between, I especially adore! I have studied high level English/Literature throughout high school and college and have consistently scored in the top percentiles and ranges in these subjects on the SAT, AP tests, and in my actual courses. Attending a competitive University and majoring in a topic with very heavy reading and writing components, I have had to continuously sharpen my practical reading and writing skills. Throughout school I have received high praise from professors particularly in my writing and analysis abilities and thus have had the wonderful opportunities to work on three pieces for publication. I have tutored in these subjects/skills for over 6 years now as well both in person and through online platforms with my students consistently showing great score and comprehension improvement.

If you are interested in learning more about or signing up for my tutoring services feel free to reach out to me! I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
