I have substitute taught all grades from pre-K through 12th, and have taught history and science as a teacher's aide in 3rd grade. I have a passion for learning, and my favorite moments as a substitute teacher have been when a student that had been struggling finally understood what they had been having a tough time grasping.
I started out wanting to teach high school history, however, my time substitute teaching made me realize that I would never get the chance to work one on one with students to ensure that they all thoroughly understood the material I was trying to communicate as a full-time classroom teacher. Additionally, I had many problems trying to maintain discipline among students who didn't respect authority.
I was a sportswriter for the student newspaper for two years, and was the sports editor for my senior year of undergrad.
In undergrad I double majored in History and Political Science. For my History major I focused on European, though I also took several American History courses. Although the only time I had Geography was in high school, I made a 100 average in that course.
My MA is in World Politics, which is a combination of International Relations and Comparative Politics. My focus in graduate school was primarily on the Middle East and East Asia. I also took courses in Psychology and Sociology in undergrad and passed them. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
History with a focus on Europe was one of my majors (I double majored) in undergrad. Specifically I focused on the 19th and 20th Centuries.
Political Science was one of my majors in undergrad (along with History), and I received my Master's in the sub-field of World Politics, which is a combination of International Relations and Comparative Politics. Although I am somewhat weak in quantitative work, I have an extensive background in qualitative work, including methodology. Along with history, political science is the field I am most comfortable lesson planning.
