About Glennyce

I've always known that I wanted to help others, and I realized that my love of languages would be the perfect vehicle for me to do so. I began my journey into teaching while I attended Binghamton University. During my time there I was a Teaching Assistant for the university's level 2 American Sign Language courses. Although I was a TA for ASL, I majored in English and Creative Writing.

Of all the languages I took an interest in, American Sign Language really is my passion. This passion is what I believe to be necessary when teaching other individuals, despite the subject. My favorite subjects, and subsequently my subjects of choice, are English (vocabulary and writing skills) and American Sign Language. I feel as though these two languages compliment one another when trying to learn either of the two but there are obvious differences. I love both languages and I hope that helping others learn them will increase communication amongst different individuals.

Aside from my experience as a TA in college, I was also briefly involved in the Deaf community in the surrounding area. This hands on involvement is beneficial when teaching others about cultural differences and knowing how to interact properly with others.

I know subjects like English and History (both of which I am a former teacher of) may not seem as entertaining as others, that is why I do my best to grab my students attention using dynamic teaching methods. For example, I try to develop lessons on song and poem writing to further develop creativity while understanding the rhythmic breakdown in classic literature.

I try to teach lessons in a non-traditional and more attentive manner, and I believe that students enjoy lessons taught that way. From my experience, enjoying a language while you learn it helps make it stick rather than the sometimes daunting task of repetition. Of course studying and dedication are key parts of learning a language and strengthening your confidence when using it, but who says you can't enjoy the journey!

I'm usually available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12pm to 530 for tutoring either online or in person. Each session is one hour in duration and my base rate is $35 per hour. I'm also willing to do lesson bundles for a discounted price. Feel free to contact me for more information!

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you communicate with others with confidence!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sign Language

My experience as a Teaching Assistant in college was the vehicle that helped me really decide that I wanted a career involving ASL, ultimately becoming an interpreter. As a TA, I often lead class lessons when asked by the professor and held office hours and tutoring for the students who needed extra help or just wanted to practice signing. I was also involved in the ASL conversation groups on campus lead by my professor for ASL students of every level.
