About Tiffani

I have been teaching for over 14 years. Graduating in the top 10% of my class with special honors and being published in "Who's Who?" twice, I know that my love and dedication to teaching has helped hundreds of students on all levels across the world. Seeing my students' grades and level of learning and understanding progress with each lesson drives me to love what I do more and more.

I have a degree in Psychology with a specialization in Educational Studies; also six certifications with TEFL accumulating to 130 hours of training: Grammar, Large Classes, Younger Learners, One-to-One, Audio and Video, and Business English. I have taught overseas and have experience with various types of Educational systems.

My goal is to make sure that my students are progressing but never feeling pressured or stressed. I am always here with understanding and patients and we work together as a team.

I look forward to meeting and working together to reach your goals.

Achieving your goals and becoming successful means working with your tutor as a team; learning with someone who is skilled, intelligent, professional, and understands what it means to also be a student. Come learn with me and see how far you can excel.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I received my TEFL certification, from I-to-I, 6 years ago. I studied and received a certification of 130 credit hours. I have 6 certifications with I-to-I in: Young Learners, Business English, Audio and Video Learning, One-on-One, Larger Groups, and Grammar. When teaching ESL, it is important to be patient in order for the student to feel comfortable. Laughing and making learning fun, helps the students to feel okay with asking questions and making mistakes. Enthusiasm and positive re-enforcement is the best way for students to learn.

Literature

As a college student, I attended many literary classes. I have a great love for literature. As a teacher, I have taught literature to both first and second English language students. When teaching literature, I help my students to not only understand what the book is about, but help them to expand their mind with questions about "Why?". Teaching literature should be done with energy and enthusiasm. I encourage my students to comprehend slowly so that they can enjoy what they are reading. By creating interest in the book, students absorb a better understanding and appreciation for what they are reading. I also assign homework such as workbook pages and short creative writing assignments.

Reading

While working on Psychology degree with Educational Studies, I tutored with several institutes in DC and Maryland including Failure Free Reading Program. I have also been teaching overseas for the past 5 years helping students of all ages learn to read. I like to make reading fun. With my students, no matter what age, I make sure they feel comfortable. I will always be patient and encouraging. It's the best way to learn.
