About Crawford

I began volunteer tutoring in high school, helping students in math, science, history, language, and whatever else I could. My work then was mostly with ADD/ADHD students. I attended New College of Florida in Sarasota, FL, where I earned a BA in Liberal Arts with areas of concentration in Medieval and Renaissance Studies and in Spanish Language and Culture. In Spain, I taught English as a foreign language to teens and adults.

At St. John Vianney College in Miami I completed a second bachelor's in philosophy. While attending, I taught religion at a local Catholic school and tutored fellow students in English, Spanish, and Latin, as foreign languages and for writing skills. I began graduate work in theology at St. Vincent de Paul where I completed two years of study and a year-long internship. I shall finish my master's in the coming years. Most recently I was living and working with the Franciscan friars in Washington, DC, helping to feed and clothe the poor in the nation's capital.

My background in Liberal Arts allows me to comfortably tutor others in these basic levels of mathematics, English, history, and more. I speak Spanish fluently, and my undergraduate co-major (called an "area of concentration" at New College) is in Spanish. I understand the frustrations and difficulties that come with studying a language, including languages no longer spoken, like Latin. My years of experience with these languages mean I have encountered numerous methods and strategies that will benefit you.

Whether you are seeking to learn something new, improve your current knowledge, or just need some help, don't hesitate to give me a try. I'm a flexible, creative tutor and am ready to plan a lesson made for your success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Religion

I completed three courses of Jewish studies and one course on the study of religion at New College of Florida. I have particular qualifications in Catholic studies, having completed a degree and coursework at two Catholic seminaries. I have also taught religion at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School (Miami, FL) and at St. Mark Catholic School (Boynton Beach, FL). I have given talks on various subjects regarding religion, such as the role of religion in social justice, to adult groups in Palmetto, FL, and Venice, FL.
