About Anton

I was born here, but grew up in Israel. I started out in the south and then spent most of my childhood living in Tel Aviv. I have been living in the US for some time now and have been teaching/tutoring Hebrew since 1997.

I was trained to tutor by the Cantor and Director of Youth Services at Temple Shalom in Greenwich CT. I spent seven years teaching classes and tutoring students in all areas of Hebrew, from Jewish liturgy to Hebrew language and Israeli culture and history. I then spent six years in New York City as a caretaker of a Sephardic Synagogue, where I attended and participated in services on a weekly basis, as well as holidays. I enjoyed it, but wanted to return to working with students, so when I moved to Washington DC with my wife two years ago I found a new teaching/tutoring job at a local Temple called Temple Micah and I am approaching the end of my second school year with them.

Tutoring is my favorite form of education, both on the teaching and the learning side, as I feel so much can be achieved when the learning is focused on one student. I also love developing relationships with my students and feel I get a lot out of it myself. Teaching to me is more than just imparting information, I believe that nurturing the students and letting them know that they have someone to support them in their endeavors adds to the overall experience. As such I consider each student to be a unique person with their own way of seeing life and try to make the lessons as personally relevant to them as possible. The reason I want to add more students and be a tutor on WyzAnt is simple, I do not have enough students to rely on the one job to be all of my income, and I love tutoring, so I would love to get some more students to work with, and hope to work with people from different backgrounds and with diverging interests.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I excelled in English, history and political science in school and was an English major in College, which I believe puts me in the correct field of expertise to help your daughter strengthen her skills for English and History classes next year.

I am an avid reader, and have read most of the "classics", a lot of Shakespeare, Twain, Orwell, as well as recent authors and love helping students discover these literary gems.

Hebrew

I grew up in Israel and went through the Israeli educational system until the end of my Sophomore year in high school. I have also been teaching/tutoring Hebrew for over fifteen years.
