About Lindsey

Hello! Thanks for stopping by. Finding a tutor can be difficult, and I applaud you for your efforts thus far.

You might be working hard, showing up to class every day, and trying your best. You have invested the time: you go to class, you ask questions, you do your homework, you study before tests, and you’re not seeing the results. You might even be at the point of giving up. You are here because you’re a fighter, you want to do well, and you want things to change.

Maybe you are a parent, watching your student battle anxiety while attempting to balance an impossible workload. You hate watching your child struggle; you want your child to have real support as they pursue their dreams. You’re committed to finding the right mentor for your child.

The good news is you have found me here!

I have over 15 years of experience tutoring math, science, and engineering classes. I delight in helping students understand math for the first time, confidently dissect physics equations, and conquer their difficult engineering classes. I use a two-pronged approach: mastering content and increasing confidence. I want my students to grow as problem solvers.

I believe that learning can be fun, as we work together to new neural connections. I tell my students, “Information can access your brain through over a thousand doors. It’s my goal to help you find the learning strategies that work for you.” I help my students leverage their brains’ first response — whether that is excitement, anxiety, joy, disgust, or sheer terror — to open natural doors to learning.

I love tutoring math because I relish in the challenge of making math come alive for everyone. Many students find my interdisciplinary approach refreshing. I regularly integrate the history of mathematics into sessions to help students understand how different ideas developed. My students experience significantly more mathematics success after being exposed to my "three principal grammars of math" approach. I help students craft individualized practice plans to improve their skills between sessions.

I started as a tutor by helping my peers decode Giancoli's Physics. I have always been captivated by how scientists use principles of observation and explanation to uncover mathematical relationships in the world. I take my students on a journey of discovering these concepts from the ground up, helping all of them connect concepts to equations in ways that stick.

I have personal experience studying mechanical engineering in college. Therefore, I am significantly invested in making sure my mechanical engineering students have a guide to support them along their professional development. I try to give students "the view from graduation" giving them all of the information I wish I had along the way.

I meet with students in-person and online. Generally, I schedule appointments between 10am and 11pm. I am happy to jump on the phone with you for 20 minutes to see if we're a good fit. I look forward to working with you. Please don't hesitate to send me a message.

I enjoyed working with your daughter a ton! We focused our time on helping her understand calculus concepts and develop stronger study skills to make sense of physics. Physics can be a difficult class for sure. Glad to help your daughter get off to a great start!

Math:
Algebra 1, Algebra 2,
Calculus,
Precalculus,
Trigonometry
Science:
Chemistry,
Mechanical Engineering,
Physical Science, Physics

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I love tutoring Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus because these courses encourage students develop their math analysis skills. I have extensive experience helping students understand the unique textures of polynomial functions, trigonometric relationships, and exponential equations. I focus my time on putting math in context while providing ample time for practice.

Calculus

I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, which demanded that I learn the ins and outs of all things calculus. I love breaking down complex concepts for students while helping them feel empowered to tackle the next big question.

Chemistry

I have worked with chemistry students at many different levels. I enjoy helping students develop a deeper understanding of the atomic world.

Mechanical Engineering

I have a degree in mechanical engineering from Boston University where I graduated magna cum laude. Additionally, I have completed graduate level coursework in mechanical engineering at Purdue University. I have tutored students in a range of mechanical engineering subjects which include, but are not limited to, engineering statics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and dynamics.

Physics

I specialize in making physics come to life for my students. I emphasize real-world observations in my efforts to help students connect concepts to equations. I have taught physics at the high school level and keep on top of the latest physics education research.

Precalculus

I love tutoring pre-calculus because I am able to translate math language into human language. As an engineer, I adopt a problem-solving approach and help my students find the learning style that works for them.

Knowledgeable, understanding, patient, easy to talk to

I had so much fear and anxiety in regards to calculus and my upcoming test. Lindsey sat down with me and before even going through the material she tried to understand me as a person and then we began to conquer the material. She was understanding and taught me tricks of the trade that really made the rules easier. I feel confident with taking my test later. She knows her stuff!
