About Alexia

Hello all, I’m Alexia, a 26 year old female with a genuine passion for science and math. I am an experienced math and science tutor, having 10+ years of tutoring experience. I began tutoring middle-schoolers as a high school student, in subjects that I naturally excelled in. The joy I got from helping enrich others made me fall in love with teaching, so I continued to tutor throughout college and now post graduation. I use tutoring as an opportunity to stay sharp in school subjects as well as helping students understand subject matter.

While in college, I worked as a chemistry, physics, and math tutor with the student center at my alma mater (The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill). In my junior year I was hired as a private tutor to help three fellow student athletes raise their GPA's and get off academic probation. The subject matter ranged from pre calculus, geometry, algebra, and trigonometry to Introductory chemistry, trigonometric Physics, and general biology.

I prefer tutoring students individually because it allows me to engage them with challenging but fun problems. Having a career as a forensic toxicologist permits me to use math and science in my daily work tasks. This gives me an advantage in tutoring these subjects because I can apply them to real life situations; which in turn makes students understand these topics much easier.

I am new to Wyzant but I look forward to helping students achieve their academic goals! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I have played basketball since the age of 5. I have played for varying skill level leagues, ending my career as the captain of my high school varsity basketball team. Not only do I play but I am also passionate about understanding and studying the game of basketball.

Conducts Fun Science Experiments!!!

Alexia conducts science experiments (based on Grades 6-8 Common Core standards) w/ my 6th grade daughter and 2 friends. The students absolutely love this class and are always anxious for the next class! My child is able to explain clearly what she did in class, so I know she's learning. Also, it's great that Alexia sends the parents a class syllabus prior to class and gives us a verbal report afte
