About Zhiyin

Hi there! I graduated from a master program in City and Regional Planning of Cornell University, and I worked as Teaching and Research Specialist back there in Cornell, Born and raised in Guangdong Province, I am a native speaker for both Mandarin and Cantonese. I love language learning personally and I love helping others to learn and advance in new languages too, because I have been through all those learning processes!

I worked with high school students back in China for an international education agency in language learning, and I tutored my fellow classmates in the subject of Chinese back in Cornell as well. That makes me experienced in intercultural teaching and communication working with students with various backgrounds and ages. My successful completion of Translation and Interpretation classes in college back in China also allows me to have comprehensive and comparative understanding of the similarities and differences in Chinese and English. It enables me to teach my students not only the language of Chinese, but also the art of using it well and the pattern, philosophy and culture behind this profound language. Most importantly my fellow classmates that I tutored learned and understood much faster in this way!

With a Bachelor degree in Management, and currently received a Master Degree in Urban Planning, I completed the requirements of Advanced Math, Public Economics and Inferential Statistics. Also I got a scaled score of 165 in Quantitative Reasoning of GRE, with the Percentile Rank of 91%.

I love making friends with my students, and supporting and inspiring them to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses in learning, in addition to challenging their potentials. I would be in active contact with students throughout the learning process for timely feedback. I try to be flexible with time, and I would also consult with students to develop and adjust study strategies that suit their conditions the best. I would always welcome you to work with me for FREE for the first one or two classes to learn better about each other!

I believe learning is also an inspiration to learn about one's self better. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to achieve in your studies and lifelong learning experience!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

As a native speaker for both Mandarin and Cantonese, I have Chinese tutoring experience with both middle schoolers and college students. I worked with high school students back in China for an international education agency in language learning, and I tutored my fellow classmates in the subject of Chinese back in Cornell as well. I am also working with a college student now here in DC on Chinese.

Personally I love language learning (I'm also learning Japanese and French now), and love helping others learning as well! I lived in Beijing for four years for my undergraduate study, and I have around 16 years of experience and training in public speaking in both Chinese and English. I personally switch my brain among English, Mandarin and Cantonese on a daily basis, and I have started to learn English since I was four, so I understand how it is to learn a foreign language, and I believe I could better help you!

Geometry

I got a Bachelor's degree of Management in Tourism Management, and Advanced Math (including Geometry) is one of our requirements. In addition the score of my GRE Quantitative Reasoning section is 165.

Linear Algebra

With a Bachelor's degree in Management, and currently pursuing a Master Degree in Urban Planning, I completed my Advanced Math requirements in undergraduate college with A's including linear algebra. Also I got a scaled score of 165 in Quantitative Reasoning of GRE, with the Percentile Rank of 91%.
