About Christina

I have a Master's degree from Illinois State University and have been tutoring since high school. After college, I did two years of AmeriCorps where I taught ESOL to adults. In addition, I was a literacy tutor for elementary-aged students who were behind on their reading level. I've also volunteered at local libraries to help with after-school tutoring sessions. I really like doing one-on-one tutoring because I can get to the know the student's abilities and goals really well and go at their pace. Confidence is really half the battle. I love that moment when the concept finally clicks!

I know that many people struggle with math. I try to make the process fun by taking it slow and using different techniques and methods of teaching because not everyone learns the same way.

I enjoy teaching and am patient and persistent. I know that practice makes perfect so I like to review and go over the same concept again and again because each time is one step closer to remembering.

Please let me know if I can fulfill your tutoring needs! I'm here to help you succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Proofreading

I have a minor in technical communications and I have experience copy editing for an online magazine. I know how to write concisely with clarity and precision. I can correct grammar and spelling errors, as well.

Psychology

I studied psychology as my major in college. I find how the human mind works so interesting! I love anything that has to do with it.

Sociology

I received my Masters degree in Sociology and am familiar with quantitative and qualitative research methods as well as the background theory including Bourdieu and Marx.
