As both a student and a professor, I know both sides of education system. I personally love school, but I know for many, reading and especially writing are a difficult task. I am excited to help students better writers and critical thinkers - important skills to have whether you are going into STEM fields, education, or corporate America. I have taught African American history to a diverse group of college students and watched their writing transform over time and their knowledge about our country's history develop. I like to make subjects like history and literature fun by talking approaching the material in new and exciting ways. At the college level, the humanities are not about remembering every president's name or identifying metaphors in a poem. We study history, literature, and art to understand how events of the past relate to one another and who we are today. I will teach you to better express your opinions verbally and in writing, read documents and draw conclusions, and think about current events with a global and historical perspective.
I have an undergraduate degree in English and American literature. I was well trained in the various English and American classics in addition to a specialty in early 20th century African American literature. I have worked as an editor for about 7 years. I know what to look for in student writing and can help you to be successful in college courses.
I have taught History at the university level, and I am prepared to cover as much or as little info as you'd like. I specialize in African American history but am also trained in American and global histories. I like to cater my lessons to the student's interests to make it fun and interactive. I use a lot of media to bring the past to life.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a professor and student, I am highly qualified in writing, editing, and coaching you through the process of writing.
