About Hannah

I'm a 2014 graduate of the University of Chicago with a degree in English Literature. Don't worry I feel very comfortable working in math and science too! Currently, I'm a professional editor for DC- area publication.

I've been tutoring and teaching most of life and I've worked with children of all ages. While in college I tutored a Chinese foreign exchange student in a sociology course, mainly helping her write several essays. (We still talk over Facebook. She recently studied in the UK!) I also was a mentor and later director of an after-school writing program for elementary students.

After graduating from college, I moved to Japan and taught English in a public Japanese high school. This included writing lesson plans, creating worksheets, making games, grading tests, and correcting college essays. I also taught once a month at a special needs school. I loved my time in Japan and still talk with many of my students. For the last few months, I have also been a part-time substitute teacher.

I feel very comfortable with ACT Math. I took two years of Calculus in high school (one was an AP course). Although I studied English in college, I also continued to take math courses for a year. On my own ACT test I scored a 28.

English is my passion! I love literature and reading books. I graduated with an English literature degree from the University of Chicago, scored a 36 on the reading section of my own ACT test, and have been tutoring students in English, and creative writing for many years.

I'd love to meet you and help you with your academic goals! Contact me if you have any questions or schedule a lesson!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in English literature. Therefore, I read many novels, and wrote many essays. This training has given me the skills in writing, and proofreading to help a student studying for the ACT. Additionally, I have worked as a writer and editor for several campus publications which has given me even more grammar and editing experience.

ACT Reading

I graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in English literature. Thus, I read many novels, and wrote many essays. As such I have excellent reading comprehension. Additionally, my knowledge of the ACT, and background in teaching (as a substitute teacher, and assistant teacher) give me the experience necessary to help a student on the ACT reading section.

ESL/ESOL

I taught English in a Japanese public high school for a year (06/14 - 0/8-15) I was responsible for creating lessons, making class activities, writing tests, making homework, and grading students homework, tests, and essays. And I graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in English literature.

Literature

I graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in English literature. Because of this academic experience, I read many novels, and wrote many essays. I have a broad knowledge of classic, and contemporary literature. I also have a strong background in reading and writing literary criticism as a result of my degree.

Proofreading

As a writer for student publications, I edited my own and many of my peers articles. I have also edited essays for a Chinese foreign exchange student that I tutored. Finally, as a teacher in Japan I corrected roughly 200 short essays a week for my high level students.
