About Eliza

My passion for Spanish comes from years of studying and living abroad in Latin American countries. I spent my junior year of college abroad in Santiago, Chile and another year in Nicaragua on a Fulbright Fellowship. I know the level of dedication needed to learn another language and hope to inspire whomever I tutor to reach a new level.

I have experience tutoring all levels of Spanish, and can assist with composition, listening, writing, reading and pronunciation. As a cum laude graduate with a minor in Spanish I took courses in phonetics, deepening my understanding of the rules of grammar and pronunciation. While tutoring as an undergraduate for an independent tutoring company I offered an assessment and received a copy of the class syllabus to ensure I was fully aware of the material needing to be covered. I am also happy to teach in a more free form for anyone who just wants to learn Spanish for fun/work/life but is not necessarily in a class.

To maintain student-tutor respect I ask for a 24 hour cancellation policy, but I am more than willing to do a make-up session.

For the assessment I am happy to meet in a public location within the District, then arrange an appropriate location with the student for any further lessons.

I am not a native speaker, but I have been mistaken for one! Having to have learned myself, I can sympathize with any student going through the process. Practice and patience are key, but I am confident everyone has what it takes to master a language.

I look forward to hearing from you and sharing my love of language learning! Buena suerte (Good luck!)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
