About Chantell

Hello all!

I'm a soon to be PhD Sociologist, meaning I have a background in teaching social science and methods courses and health policy coursework. I love math and statistics and spent several years teaching Introductory and Advanced Statistics and Quantitative Research Methods at Syracuse University. I also have two Bachelors degrees in Biology and Sociology, so happy to teach/tutor in the sciences as well (including Biology, Chemistry, and Biostatistics or other things related to Epidemiology).

I love math, and I think half of what gets in the way of students doing well is just being scared of the concept. Math is useful and it can be fun! Plus, gaining skills in statistics and quantitative methods is a great way to set yourself up for success later in life, so it's worth the effort.

Contact me to learn more and schedule a lesson. I'm happy to help!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I have a biology degree (Bachelor of Science) and graduated with honors. I've also used my background for work on my medical sociology MA and tutored intro to biology students previously.

Sociology

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and I expect to finish my degree after defending my dissertation later this year. I have taught courses including Social Problems, Sociology of Sex & Gender, Research methods and Health policy for undergraduate and graduate students & presented course lectures on research ethics and institutional review board procedures. In those roles, I facilitated class discussions and group presentations, provided detailed feedback for student papers, and advised students on final projects and group presentations on the gender pay gap, glass ceiling, health care access, and other topics.

STATA

I am a a current Ph.D. Candidate in Medical Sociology and have taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in health policy and research methods. I received strong formal training in research methods, including research design, survey research, and statistical analysis using STATA and SPSS, and used STATA to analyze data for my dissertation.

Statistics

I'm a Ph.D. Candidate in Medical Sociology, with strong training in Quantitative Methods. I've taught graduate level statistics and quantitative methodology coursework, and I've used these methods for both my dissertation and non-profit work.
