About Sandra

I am an experienced ESL and reading teacher who has over 30 years of teaching experience. I have taught English to students of all ages, from elementary school to college level. I am able to teach reading, writing, speaking and grammar skills. I have worked with adults who need to improve their business English and have worked with college age students who need the extra practice to increase their scores on the TOEFL exam.

I am also able to help children who are struggling readers. I have experience teaching reading and am able to help students with strategies that will improve their comprehension.

I am a certified ESL teacher and have gone through a course that has given me the skills necessary to be an effective teacher. I am able to assess students and tailor the instruction to meet their individual needs.

I encourage you to contact me if you'd like to set up a time for tutoring. I would prefer to work in the DC area.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
