About Sarah

As an licensed, secondary-level English teacher, I am excited to work closely with students who will benefit from my extensive and varied teaching experience, my dedication and positive attitude, and my strong track record of fostering student motivation and enhanced learning. I have taught English for five years, and I absolutely love it. The best part of my job is working with the students. I assess my students' learning styles, academic needs and strengths in order to tailor instruction and a learning environment that is stimulating and encouraging. I have proven results in reading and writing, and my students are guaranteed to demonstrate growth. In addition to being an English teacher/tutor, I have been a mentor for new teachers, a high school field hockey coach, and a drama coach. I believe in life-long learning, never backing down from a challenge, always striving to become better. It is my hope that, by my example, all of my students come to love learning, too.

Certified English Teacher (grades 6-12)
Test-preparation (ACT, SAT, Praxis)
Reading and Writing Instruction
Whether we are working on essay-writing, test-preparation, or literary analysis, my goal is to keep the student engaged in rigorous work without feeling overwhelmed or defeated. I assign homework after every session that is appropriately challenging, and I provide periodic progress reports and assessments.

I hold myself to a high standard. I will never bill a lesson if a parent or student is not entirely satisfied with my tutoring. I try to be flexible with time. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I do offer makeup classes. I am happy to travel to a location that is most convenient to the student.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
