About Jake

I strongly believe that all people can learn and grow if they are empowered and inspired to utilize their strengths. As an educational coach, I specialize in working with learners who want to make a significant change to their academic or professional performance. My educational coaching helps to develop learners' confidence, independence and ability to succeed in any context. I specialize in working with adolescent, teen and adult learners in areas related to leadership, communication, literacy and language development. I also have expertise in history, social studies and English language arts.

I have been an educator in the Baltimore Metro Area for over 14 years. During this time I have worked as a classroom Language Arts, Social Studies and ESL teacher. I have also been a school leader and instructional coach. In addition to educational coaching, I also work with school leaders around the country to help design their academic programs to ensure all students excel. This work involves coaching professionals in a one-on-one context as well as presenting to hundreds of educators at a time. I hold a Master's degree in Instructional Systems Design and Teaching English as a Second Language and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Education with a focus on Educational Leadership.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

Through out my career I have been responsible for preparing and delivering countless presentations to a variety of audiences including company CEOs, educators, families, and more. Additionally, while a classroom teacher, I prepared students to make presentations to a variety of audiences to show off their learning. I have strong theoretical and practical understandings of highly effective public speaking.

Social Studies

I am certified to teach social studies in the state of Maryland. I have taught economics, American and World History, geography and general social studies. Much of my work has involved developing literacy skills through social studies topics.
