Bio

I'll always appreciate my teachers for introducing me to new subjects and for opening new doors for me. I believe that good teaching is giving back, which is why I've been tutoring since college. As a Teach for China Fellow, I have experience teaching English to beginning and intermediate English with a focus on pronunciation. I teach both IPA and phonics. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and I have tutored ROTC students in spoken Chinese as a part of a Defense Department language program....

I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and I have tutored ROTC students in spoken Chinese as a part of a Defense Department language program.

I also have a music minor from Boston University. I have played in competitive orchestras such as the New York Youth Symphony, Connecticut All-State, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute's Young Artist's Orchestra. I have been teaching private lessons since high school, and I teach beginning and intermediate students of all ages.

My teaching approach is very student centered. I make all lesson plans in advance, and I take care to use every minute of our tutoring sessions productively.

I offer a free consultation with the student and parents (if applicable) so we can discuss your prior experience and your goals in the subject.

Please feel free to contact me if you're interested in learning Mandarin Chinese, English as a Foreign Language, or Violin.

Violin

I started violin when I was five years old. In high school, I was concertmaster of the New Haven Youth Orchestra, a member of the New York Youth Symphony, and a four year member of the Connecticut All-State Orchestra. I attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in the summer of 2008. Although I chose not to major in violin in college, I have kept up my level of playing in the Boston University Symphony Orchestra. I also took lessons and played in a weekly chamber group.

Linda is amazing, knowledgeable, and infinitely patient!

As a violin teacher, Linda has infinite patience, is encouraging, and clearly very excited about imparting her knowledge to others. I highly recommend her! She makes sure to focus on all aspects of the training in each lesson - tuning the violin properly, stance, posture, finger and bow placement, and reading music. She encourages me to have a full understanding of the theory and rhythm of the music I am playing to make sure I am confident and well-versed as the weeks go by.
