About Amber

Hello! I am excited to introduce myself. I truly believe in the power of education to lead to a more fulfilling life - the world is a big place and I would love to help you uncover it. You might currently call me an international trade and development professional. One day, I hope to be called a professor, and for the same reasons that I tutor: I love helping others learn.

*General Credentials*
- MA in International Economics and International Relations, from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) with a 3.7 GPA
- BA in Global Affairs, French, and Art History, from George Mason University, cum laude
- GRE score of 167 (verbal) and 159 (quantitative).

*Tutoring Strengths*
- Economics. As a trained development economist, I am comfortable with both basic economics as well as intermediate and more advanced and applied economics, including econometrics.
- Writing. Writing is an integral part of my work. I also served as an editor on two separate student journals, published an article while in grad school, and had four separate professors request to use papers I wrote as examples for future classes.
- French. I have studied the beautiful language since 7th grade, including during college and in preparation for passing a French proficiency exam in order to receive my MA. I have also spent over two years living and working in francophone countries.

I am eager to meet you and help you on your path to success! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to me. Cheers!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

French

I have several years of formal French language training, from middle/high school to college and graduate school. I have also lived and continue to work in the francophone world. My extensive education means I have an in-depth understanding of the language - and the struggles of learning it as an anglophone - while my experience living/working in French means I am very comfortable using it.

Macroeconomics

As a trained development economist, I am comfortable with basic economics as well as intermediate and more advanced and applied economics, including econometrics. In my professional life, I regularly apply the concepts learned during graduate school. My deep interest in the field means I am genuinely excited to help others discover its magic!

Microsoft Excel

In addition to working in Excel for a number of years to perform a variety of tasks such as budget formulation and record keeping, I completed graduate-level coursework that required an advanced-level of knowledge in this versatile software. For example, I have built complicated financial models involving multiple worksheets and complex formulas.

Writing and editing are integral parts of my work. I also served as an editor on two separate student journals, published an article while in grad school, and had four separate professors request to use papers I wrote as examples for future classes.

We definitely see an improvement in our daughter's performance and in her attitude towards French class. Amber always has a set of topics to cover and is able to address topics on an ad hoc basis when needed.
