About Marcus

I am an engineer by trade. I have been tutoring on and off since college. My main area of focus is math. My goal is to simply point out a new perspective on how to view problems. Often times, its simply a matter of patience, confidence and practice. I am free Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesday evenings. I am an engineer by trade. I have been tutoring on and off since college. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have dyslexia myself and I tutored fellow engineering students w/ dyslexia.

First there are multiple degrees of dyslexia. It's not just seeing words appearing re-arranged or getting mental blocks.

For some less severe, like myself, it takes longer to understand concepts. But once understood, it is usually understood better than most. Thus the intent here is practiced patience and the building of the student's confidence.

For some, it's just a mental block, along w/ added frustration, leads to inability understand. Usually what is called for is a more relaxed approach, with a comparison to a familiar concept; remove the pressure, thus ease the acceptance of the new concept by starting with something familiar and showing how the same principle applies to the current problem. Again...practiced patience and confidence building are the key attributes.

The last piece is practice, routine practice after learning a concept or solving a problem.
