About Caroline

I have been working as a personal tutor since November 2007 for the George Washington University (GWU) Athletic Department. I have hundreds of hours of experience and am well-versed in explaining complicated concepts in a way that beginners can easily understand.

I specialize in tutoring math (from pre-algebra to differential equations!), economics, and statistics. I completed a B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from GWU, graduating summa cum laude, and also received the Ruggles Prize, an award given annually since 1866 for excellence in mathematics. I minored in economics and went on to study it further in graduate school. My graduate work was completed at the University of Maryland College Park, where I specialized in international development and quantitative analysis. I currently work as a professional economist.

I am happy to travel to meet students, particularly to areas that are easily accessible via Metro.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Econometrics

I work as a professional economist, where I utilize econometric models and concepts regularly using both STATA and Excel.

I have also had extensive coursework in econometrics and used econometrics in research papers in both college and graduate school.

Linear Algebra

I received an A in college-level linear algebra course, and have taken and received As and Bs in additional math courses (ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, numerical analysis, etc.) that require a thorough understanding of linear algebra.

Additionally, I have six years of personal tutoring experience, some of which was in linear algebra. I have also retained my linear algebra book from college and can easily refresh my memory on concepts prior to meeting with students.
