About Nancy

I have 13 years' experience teaching and mentoring college undergraduate and graduate students on quantitative research projects, including teaching applied statistics and research methods, and using SPSS, STATA, R, and Excel. I also have over 20 years of research experience in the social sciences, most recently in the fields of early education and health care.

Whether you need help planning your research project, cleaning and managing your data, entering your data, analyzing your data, writing up your results, or learning statistical software, I can help guide you.

Please note that from July 1 through mid August, I will only be available via SKYPE, Google Hangouts, phone, or email. I will be out of the Washington, DC area, but have had great success doing long-distance tutoring via electronics.

Thank you Sezan! Having details of what you wanted to work on several days beforehand allowed me the time to prepare specialized help, which I feel is the most effective use of our time together. When tutoring works well, it is a mutual enterprise. So thank you for providing the information I needed to be able to be a good tutor to you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Windows

I am a long-time, high-level user of Microsoft Windows, with particular expertise in Word and Excel. I have former colleagues who continue to call me to ask me questions about functions in Word and Excel when they can't get help from their IT department. I am primarily self-taught, and love to share software tips with others.

STATA

I have been using STATA for nearly 10 years, and teaching students, as well as colleagues, in its use. In my faculty position, I was the "go-to" person for statistical software, including STATA and SPSS.
