About Alexi

I specialize in Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and college-level Calculus 1. I taught Calculus 1 for several semesters at Virginia Commonwealth University and I was a recitation instructor for Calculus 3 for two semesters at Rutgers University. I tutored grade school students up through calculus students on the side while I was at school because I absolutely adore teaching math. Since then, I graduated from Rutgers University in 2016 with my Masters in mathematics and then moved to Washington, DC as a full-time math tutor.

I am an energetic and happy teacher and I really enjoy finding several different ways to explain something new until it clicks for the student; I am very patient, open, and welcoming. Also, translating dry math concepts into engaging analogies is a characterizing part of my teaching style. My tutoring specialty lies in getting students comfortable and confident in algebra and calculus at both the high school and university levels. I have experience teaching students from elementary school age up through adult students, and I like to make everyone feel comfortable studying math.

Feel free to message me anytime about your particular tutoring goals or to schedule our first session!

--- TEACHING EVALUATION EXCERPT ---

From my year teaching at Rutgers University:

"Alexi was always upbeat and energetic. It helped me get excited about the otherwise dry course."

"She was able to communicate how the formulas worked very well so it was less like memorizing them and more like understanding how and why they worked."

"I absolutely loved attending recitation because of her positive attitude, patience, and helpfulness."

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I have positively adored these last five years teaching calculus at VCU and Rutgers University, as well as being a private math tutor.

A great experience

I truly enjoyed my experience with Alexi. I was having trouble grasping the topics in the classroom, but in the one hour I was with Alexi, those topics became clearer. She is very patient and clearly knowledgeable about the subject that she teaches. Even though I have only had one session with her, I can tell that this experience is worth it, and I would highly recommend her to anyone struggling w
