About Andrew

I am a graduate student studying at Georgetown's School of Foreign Service, and have worked as an analyst and Middle East expert at an international financial institution for the last few years. As a non-native speaker who learned Arabic in an intensive, formal classroom setting followed by immersion training, I have an appreciation for the challenges faced by new students of the language, as well as the ways the language is often poorly taught as confusing or overly formal. Arabic can be easy! It's a very logical language and is a lot of fun to learn, and I have years of experience helping fellow students and coworkers get started on their Arabic education.

In addition to my Arabic background, I have tutored all age groups in a variety of subjects, and know how to help people master challenging content. I very much enjoy relearning - especially in Arabic - with students new to the subject, and am available for any content or scheduling requests you might have.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I have been studying and using Arabic professionally for the last 8 years, including a year and a half of intensive Arabic education in Egypt and Morocco, and received a 3 (Superior) rating for Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) on the ACTFL/ILR language test. I've conducted business in both formal and dialect Arabic as an analyst for an international financial institution, and have continued to provide Arabic translation and research services in addition to tutoring.
