Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have completed an undergraduate degree in psychology and I am familiar with the type of math tested on the ACT. If you need help with the math on this test, then I am the tutor for you. ACT Math Tutoring includes assistance working through a practice ACT Math test and tutoring on your growth target areas.

Algebra 1

I have several semesters of experience with college level algebra. Algebra tutoring services involve an explanation of key algebraic concepts including understanding expressions, variables, and equations. After tutoring services, the student will be prepared to solve algebra equations.

Bible Studies

I have taught Bible study classes to children and adult for over a decade. Bible Study tutorial services would involve help learning more about the structure of the Bible and specific biblical topics.

Grammar

Grammar includes tutoring on the parts of speech, sentence structure, and basic sentence construction skills.

Phonics

As a developmental psychologist specializing in cognitive development, I have extensive training in helping students to develop phonemic awareness which serve as the building blocks for reading. Essentially, these tutorial sessions will help learner begin to sound out words and thereby strengthen their reading fluency and comprehension skills.

Praxis

I have several years of experience in teacher training. I have excelled at the Praxis I math, writing, and reading subject tests. Praxis II tests are widely varied, so we can discuss which specific subject you are taking. Let me help you take the stress out of the Praxis I tests.

Prealgebra

I have completed courses in College Algebra and have taught math to undergraduate students. Prealgebra tutorial services include an introduction to variables, operations, and equations.

Reading

Reading tutorial services include support to build fluency and comprehension for all learners.

SPSS

I have several years of experience teaching SPSS to undergraduate statistics students. The SPSS tutorial services include assistance with developing a database, support through the data entry process, and guidance in learning how to compute statistical tests using SPSS. If you do not have a specific task to complete, then SPSS software is equipped with sample datasets. Student MUST have access to SPSS software for hands-on SPSS experience.

Statistics

I have several semesters of experience teaching statistics to college students. Statistics tutorial services include support with learning the logic and application for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques. Multivariate statistics and more complex techniques can be negotiated as needed.

Study Skills

I have taught entry level undergraduate courses for several years in psychology. This experience has prepared me to help students to become better learners through strategic study skills. During tutoring sessions, I will guide learners in developing important skills such as detailed lecture note-taking, chapter reviewing/ outlining techniques, and test preparation strategies that will help to improve course grades and performance.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary involves building your ability to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words based upon the root words and context clues.

Writing

I have extensive expertise writing and critiquing student work as a college instructor. Writing tutorial services include improving your writing to ensure clarity, logical flow, and accuracy. It can focus on writing a specific paper, essay, or report. On the other hand, the focus of the tutoring sessions can be to improve your overall writing skills.
