About Alexander

Hello,

I am here to help you improve your understanding of economics and math. I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students in microeconomics, macroeconomics, Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Calculus (HS and University) for several years. This includes preparation for quantitative sections of exams such as the GRE.

I emphasize a comprehensive, "big picture" understanding of any subject, rather than a mechanical "pass the test" type of approach, as I believe a good understanding of multiple concepts of a subject allows a student to do well in class even if they forget a detail or don't remember a specific fact. I am very patient with my students and encourage students to approach the subjects intuitively.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Economics

I have tutored students in micro, macro, and international econ over the years. I've assisted one student with his senior design thesis as well.

GRE

Tutored algebra, geometry, and GRE test techniques.

Russian

I am a native Russian speaker, and can speak, read, and write fluently.

Alex is everything I hoped he'd be. Serious, no nonsense and dedicated to helping you to do your best. No question is ridiculous. He gets into your mind to determine how you think and pushes you to think. I am not analytical--but I am learning how to become better and Alex challenges me. I am excited to continue working with him.
