I have four years experience working as a substitute teacher in public and charter schools in DC. I have experience with general education students and special education students in grades 2 to grade 4. My method of helping students achieve reading results to meet achievement goals are to start them one grade below their grade level to reinforce previous reading skills. I can provide reading materials and work with students in their present reading books. I am available to meet in their homes or in a school setting.

It has been almost a year since my son has been working with Mr. W and I can see a sharp improvement in my son's reading comprehension and writing skills. Mr. W's lessons are challenging and he knows when to take my son to the level. I am so happy to have him a tutor. In addition, he provides me with handouts to reinforce what he is learning is school and in his tutor session. I have no problem reaching him by phone and/or email. I give Mr. W 10 stars!!!!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an alumni of DC Teaching Fellows-Winter Cohort-2009. In 2011 I received a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction with an additional nine credits in special education instructions. While doing my course work I was employed as a long/short term substitute in the public/charter schools in my area. I developed daily instructions for students in general and special education classes. I have experience working with students from 2nd to 6th grade. I worked in collaboration with special education teachers, psychologists, social workers and administrative staff in maintaining the reading and math levels developed by the school standards.
I also have experience working with teenagers and young adults. I assisted students in employment and educational goals as a counselor for teens and young adults who were living in an independent living facility. I was successful in enrolling three teens into community colleges in our area.
