About Rita

Dear Students:

I have been an ESL teacher for most of my career. I have experience at all levels of instruction from elementary through college.

I usually determine a reading level in the first lesson and organize instruction in the four domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing around it.

I really like to see students gain confidence and improve their English skills with each lesson. I use my own materials and can also use students' books to help them with any class assignments they may have.

Thank you,

Rita

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a master's degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University. I have taught ESL at various levels including college, adult, and junior high school (grades 7-9). I hold a current teaching license in ESL from the District of Columbia Public Schools. At this time I would like to work with secondary school (grade 9 and above) and adult ESL students.

Warm and Conscientious — We had very specific objectives for our tutoring sessions with Rita and she met all of our objectives and more. She was very warm and easy to work with and always came prepared, often providing more study materials for each session. We would wholeheartedly recommend her for any ESL needs. ...
